Automations

This page covers all of the automated tasks I’ve either added, plan to add, or have used in the past. My favorite is my home-office automation. All current ones have passed the WAF.

Current or Planned automations

Event based

  • If all lights are off and the front door is opened, assume someone is coming home and turn on select lights
  • Bathroom/shower fans turn off 15 minutes after the bathroom lights are turned off. Eventually they’ll be controlled by humidity sensors
  • Push notification when laundry is done (determined by power monitoring)
  • Smoke alarm will send a push notification and email if it goes off
  • Water sensors shut off Moen-Flo if a leak is detected

Home-Office

  • Turn lights on based on motion sensor of me entering the room
  • Turn lights off if no motion for 5 minutes and my monitor is off (tp-link hs110 monitoring the monitor’s power usage)

Time + Event Based

  • Blinds open/close based on time of day or sunrise/sunset + a time offset
  • When the bedroom door is closed after 10pm, turn off all lights
  • When the primary bedroom door opens during our normal sleep hours, turn on lights to the kitchen at 10% brightness

Simple Lighting Automations

  • Multiple lights where neutral ends at the light - switch controls wifi bulb via HASS and power is always on.
  • Stairwell lights are motion controlled
  • Closet lights are motion or door sensor controlled depending on the closet

Automations from past places

  • The food pantry had a pull-string light. WiFi lightbulb + Aeotec Door Sensor 7. Light goes on and off to the door sensor open/close state = WAF 5/5
